Dr. Mahsa Tehrani, M.D.

Mahsa Tehrani, M.D. is co-founder of Arthritis and Rheumatology Clinical Center of Northern Virginia. Dr. Tehrani is double board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

Dr. Tehrani grew up in Northern Virginia. In 2003, she earned her Bachelor of Science with cum laude honors at the George Washington University and was inducted into the Psi Chi honor society. To gain in-depth knowledge of natural health remedies, she pursued a Masters in Complementary and Alternative Medicine at Georgetown University. Thereafter, Dr. Tehrani was granted a research training award to perform a year of oncology research at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Tehrani successfully attended medical school at the George Washington University (GWU). Upon completion of the program, she pursued an additional 3 years of residency training in Internal Medicine at GWU, during which she received the Baldridge Physician of the Month Award. She subsequently completed a 2 year fellowship in Rheumatology at GWU. During her fellowship, she pursued specialized training in musculoskeletal sonography, to diagnose pathology and to expertly use this modality for precise, ultrasound-guided joint injections. Dr. Tehrani is amongst a select group of rheumatologists who have received the American College of Rheumatology Certification in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (RhMSUS). Given a deep interest in research, she has published ten peer reviewed articles in scientific journals, including Blood and International Journal of Rheumatology. She currently serves as an expert reviewer for the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases.

Dr. Tehrani believes a strong physician-patient relationship and communication is vital to positive health outcomes, and seeks to customize treatment plans, based on each individual patient. She has served as the Rheumatology expert contributor, to the Arthritis and You column, on the EverydayHealth.com consumer health and wellness website, and is currently the contributing Rheumatology expert to their Health Answers column. Dr. Tehrani is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, DC Rheumatism Society, and American Medical Association.
